The Go-Giver By Bob Burg and John David Mann

Here is a snip of a letter that I received from Bob Burg and John David Mann regarding their new book, The Go-Giver: We are so grateful for the many friends and colleagues who have given us so many endorsements for The Go-Giver. Now that its actually on the bookshelves, were beginning to get even more accolades, coming from people who just happened upon it and others whove bought it based on a friends recommendation. Some talk about how moving the story itself was, others rave about the Five Laws of Statospheric Success that our protagonist, Joe, learns from his mysterious lunch guests. What they ALL talk about is how life-changing the message itself is. This overwhelming response has humbled us ” and it has further ignited our desire to see this book in the hands of millions of people worldwide. Giving Thanks

I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union." Are The Markets Especially Volatile This Year?

Although it may feel like the markets are just bouncing around like crazy this year, Vanguard shares some data that shows that the markets are actually performing in line with history. A common definition of volatile day is one where the market index moves at least 1% up or down. For example, yesterday all three major market indexes dropped between 1.3 and 1.6%, and it was considered a "pounding". But, as you can see in the chart below, historically about a quarter of all days are volatile.

Indianapolis-based TCF said its prime rate is now 6 percent. Tenn. Sheriff Charged With Extortion

The sheriff of a southern Tennessee county was arrested Saturday in an FBI sting and charged with extorting money from video gambling operators. Between April and mid-December, Hamilton County Sheriff Billy Long accepted $17,400, which he was told were payments from store owners "to protect their video poker business and other illegal activity," according to a federal affidavit.

Malaria warning as UK becomes warmer

Breaking Earth NewsUKThe UK is to be hit by regular malaria outbreaks, fatal heatwaves and contaminated drinking water within five years because of global warming. Following a major consultation with climate change scientists, the Government is issuing official advice to hospitals, care homes and institutions for dealing with rising temperatures, increased flooding, gales and other major weather events. It warns that there is a high likelihood of a major heatwave, leading to as many as 10,000 deaths, hitting the UK by 2012. Hospitals are warned to prepare for outbreaks of malaria and tick-born viruses, as well as increased levels of skin cancer and deaths from asthma and other breathing conditions. "Malaria has been seen in these islands in the past, and it is not impossible that it will return regularly if the UK experiences more tropical temperatures and rain on the scale experienced last summer." In south-east England, the chance of a severe heatwave on this scale by 2012 is said to be one in 40, and "in conventional thinking about risks to health, a risk of one in 40 is high." Flooding is likely to have an impact on the safety of drinking water, with increased bacteria and algal blooms in reservoirs.

Gary Busey gets his Red Carpet Oscar moment

Article by Celeb. at am not sure what Gary Busey was doing at the Oscars this evening, but he made sure that the good folks at E!, especially Ryan Seacrest, knew that he deserved some camera time. He interrupted an interview between Seacrest, Jennifer Garner, and Laura Linney. Busey went on to give a very annoyed looking Garner a bear hug and a kiss. I think in the future the Oscars might ban Busey along with Paris Hilton.

The Office, Housebroken

New York Times: It was not so long ago, Neal Zimmerman recalls, that the term home office meant something very different from what it does today.

In the early 90s, when Zimmerman, a prominent workplace architect with offices in West Hartford, Conn., started designing residential work spaces, most people thought home office meant the headquarters of a company. Back then, the very idea of working at home had a certain stigma, except in a few vocations like freelance writing. In the popular imagination, he said, people who worked from home were usually laid off or couldn't hold down a job, or were peripheral to the work force. But by 2006, according to data collected by the Dieringer Research Group, a marketing research company in Brookfield, Wis., more than 28 million Americans were working from home at least part time ”an increase of 10 percent from just the year before, and 40 percent from 2002.

The American Home Furnishings Alliance reports that 7 in 10 Americans now have offices or designated workstations in their homes, a 112 percent increase since 2000, and a recent survey by the National Association of Home Builders found that home offices ranked as the fourth most important feature in a new upscale home, just ahead of security.

A LUNCH WITH PHILIPPINE POLITICIANS

BISEAN sitting down with a couple of Philippine politicians at lunch watching a hearing in the Senate about some corruption scandal against the government.

ON TV:

Star Witness: Blah, blah, blah. Blah, blah, blah. Smiles. Blah, blah, blah.

Accused: Blah, blah, blah.

Star Witness: Blah, blah. Yaddi -yaddi -da-da.

This went on for like half an hour.

ON OUR TABLE:

All quiet, trying to focus on the proceedings. Sofia forking her dessert, Morgan studying the center-piece flowers and I having a headache trying to decipher the Filipino words they are saying!

When the Star Witness face was focused again on the TV, Tommy blurted out "HES A BIG LIAR! Cant they see it? The eye movements, the muscles on the cheeks, the lingering of words! Hes lying! His shoulders gave it away! He's making up stories!" Every one on the table was startled. Tommy didn't know that all those politicians on our table are pro-Star Witness and against the government.

Hahaha!Frankly, I also know that the witness is adding and sensationalizing facts! Tommy is a Doctor of Psychology. Hell spot a lie even before you open your mouth.

New wave of job cuts hits health care

A lack of significant new drugs and products, declining sales of lucrative flagship franchises and fierce competition have set off a wave of "restructuring" moves among the biggest names in health care. In many cases, restructuring is a euphemism for eliminating thousands of jobs, and it remains to be seen whether these moves are quick fixes to prop up dwindling profits, or a recognition of the industry.

Lohan Out and About in NYC

Lindsay Lohan spent a good bit of time in New York City last week and managed to keep a somewhat low profile. Among the events she went to was a photography exhibit at her own building, The Atelier. The (bizarre) exhibit showcased works inspired by her tattoos. Also present was Samantha Ronson, who hasn't spent much time with Lohan since she took part in the vehicular drama that was Lohan's last night before re-entering rehab last year. Lohan was overheard talking to guests about her new album, saying it's her best yet.

Niche Biz: BedBusters

Unusual Business Ideas That Work: San Francisco-based BedBusters is focusing on a specific element of household garbage: mattresses.

For about USD $100, the company will haul away a two-piece full-sized mattress set. Extra charges apply if the haulers must climb more than 18 stair steps, and removing bigger mattresses costs more. Riding the eco wave, the mattress disposal service has incorporated an important green element. Once the mattress is carted away, its taken to a recycling center where a machine grinds the mattress back into its basic elements of steel, wood and foam, all of which can be reused.

By contrast, many mattresses are simply taken to landfills and left to rot. A lot of mattresses, it turns out. The International Sleep Products Association reports that just in the Duluth region of Minnesota in the US, more than 63,000 mattresses are dumped at landfills every year. Elsewhere, many landfills no longer accept mattress drop-offs, or charge hefty fees. Which creates a growing niche for entrepreneurs.
